L’objectif est clairement défini : terminer dans les dix premiers pour accéder à la Super DII <\/strong>prévue pour la saison suivante. Tâche ardue pour le FCG à un moment où la Direction Générale d’Ugine SA a fixé un budget encore plus serré. Pour mettre en œuvre la politique souhaitée, le Président Général Gérard CHASSAGNON qui a déclaré en début de saison "il faut resserrer les boulons<\/em>", nomme Georges BERNARD au poste de manager général.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/p>\n

E. DURAND qui a fait tant de miracles dans la cage forgeronne s’en va à Martigues et se voit remplacer par BOUMNIJEL de retour au club après un prêt d'un an à Nancy. En octobre, le sénégalais Amara TRAORÉ, buteur confirmé de DII  est enrôlé pour suppléer JR. TESTA parti au Havre.<\/span><\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n

Après avoir passé la quasi-totalité du championnat au-delà de la fameuse 10ème<\/sup> place couperet, les joueurs de GRANSART accrochent in-extrémis une 11ème<\/sup> place qui leur laisse quelques espoirs dans l’attente de la décision de la DNCG chargée d’éliminer les « mauvais élèves ».<\/span><\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n

Et la cité des forges va vivre un mois de juin à rebondissements après l’annonce du retrait d’Ugine SA du circuit pro. En quinze jours, les dirigeants réussissent l’exploit de présenter un budget équilibré pour la Super DII, mais le 19 juin, au profit de l’ancienneté, le Conseil d’Administration de la Ligue préfère le FC MULHOUSE, 11ème<\/sup> du groupe A, au FCG pour occuper la place laissée vacante par le SC.TOULON, recalé. La pugnacité du président Gilbert PITHIOUD pour faire reconnaitre la saine gestion de son club sera finalement récompensée. Le suspense prend fin une semaine plus tard à Montpellier. Pour insuffisance de garanties financières, le conseil fédéral refuse le statut professionnel à LYON-DUCHÈRE monté de DIII et valide la place du FC GUEUGNON en Super DII<\/strong>.<\/span><\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n

? Qualifié aux pénalties en 32ème<\/sup> face au FC METZ, le FC GUEUGNON s’incline en 16ème<\/sup> Coupe de France face à un autre club de DI, le RC LENS qui l’emporte à Jean Laville toujours aux tirs aux buts (4-2) après un match nul (0-0).<\/span><\/span><\/o:p><\/p>\n

? Pour des raisons budgétaires, l’équipe B qui s’était maintenue en DIII, repartira en N3 (ex DIV) et l’équipe C ne participera pas au Championnat Honneur.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
